WA Aboriginal corporation put under administration

Yesterday the Registrar of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporations, Anthony Beven, placed the Waminda Aboriginal Corporation under administration.

He appointed Mr Brian McMaster and Mr Jack James from KordaMentha in Perth as special administrators.

Waminda Aboriginal Corporation is located in Armadale in Perth and provides a variety of services to Aboriginal people including aged care, Home and Community Care, home maintenance, and a program for children up to 5 years old.

On 29 January 2008 accountants Pitcher Partners conducted an examination of the corporation under section 453-1 of the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006.

‘We requested this examination because we had concerns about a dispute between directors of the corporation,’ Mr Beven said. ‘It recommended placing the corporation under administration.’

The special administrators will identify who the rightful directors are and assess the corporation’s ability to manage into the future.

‘We hope that by putting the corporation under administration, any disputes between directors and concerns we have will be quickly resolved.

‘The corporation will then be able to continue providing the valuable assistance and support services to the aged, families and Aboriginal people with disabilities living in communities around Perth.’

The administrators can be contacted on (08) 9221 6999.
