Public Register of Indigenous Corporations

Summary

Details of every Indigenous corporation under the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006 (CATSI Act) are listed in a register maintained by the Registrar. These details include: name and Indigenous Corporation Number of the corporation, date of incorporation, name and address of the contact person or secretary and a copy of the corporation's rule book.

Contents

The Registrar is required to maintain a register of the Indigenous corporations registered under the ACA Act.

The record contains the Indigenous Corporation Number (ICN), the registered name and the date of incorporation, as well as the name and registered address of the contact person or secretary of each corporation. The record also contains a copy of the rule book which sets out the corporation's rules for internal governance and management.

The ICN is not related to the ABN, ACN, ARBN or ARSN numbers used by some corporations for other purposes.

Note: It is possible that an Indigenous corporation may trade under a business name, instead of its registered name under the CATSI Act. The trading name of a registered Indigenous corporation can be obtained by accessing the Australian Securities and Investments Commission website, or through the individual websites for each state and territory jurisdiction.

For corporations in liquidation the contact officer will be the name of the liquidator. An Indigenous corporation in liquidation does not have a contact person or secretary.

For corporations under administration the name of the administrator will be recorded as the contact person or secretary.

It is possible that a corporation may not have supplied ORIC with its contact person or secretary details. If this is so, the words 'not available' will appear. The listing of Indigenous corporations has been compiled by the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations. As it is based in part on advice supplied by the corporations themselves, the Registrar cannot guarantee the accuracy of the contact person or secretary’s name and official address for each Indigenous corporation and therefore does not accept responsibility of liability for information that may be inaccurate or out of date.
